Say "I love you " with a dazzling diamond that sparkles with the promise of eternity. Choose from our exquisite selection of engagement rings or create your own.

Everything is perfect. The lights are nicely dimmed in the lovely restaurant in which you are now sitting. A violin is playing in the background. You are drinking a fine bottle of wine. You're ready to propose to your girlfriend, who is sitting just across the table, looking at you with eyes that say "ask me to marry you.” So all you need is to pull out the ring, show it to her, and you're off to Tahiti for a happy honeymoon.

Or are you? Did you pick out the right one? Will she like it? Well, luckily for you, we here at GrandLuxury have performed extensive research on engagement rings and their ilk. Read on to find out exactly what steps you should take to buy the perfect engagement ring that'll put the honey in your moon.

  1. Find out what your girlfriend likes.

Pay attention when she admires someone else’s ring.

Notice which advertisements or photographs of rings she admires.

Take time to notice the other jewelry she wears – whether she simple design or a more intricate piece.

Ask her friends and family what she likes.

Note metal choice as well – white gold, yellow gold or platinum.

  1. Decide on a budget.

Buying a diamond means investing in a piece of forever. A true miracle of nature dating from the beginning of time, each diamond purchase is special.

Every individual buying a diamond seeks out the best they can afford. Nature’s variety means that you will always find a diamond to suit your taste, budget and occasion. If you’re about to buy a diamond engagement ring, you may want to consider the often-quoted guideline of spending one to two month’s salary.

You can rest assured that the diamond you buy will be a sound financial investment. Their rare qualities have been sought after for thousands of years. Their desirability and value remain undiminished today and will continue through the years to come.

But, whatever you spend, your diamond will represent one of life’s deepest emotional investments. It may eventually be passed down for generations, cherished not just for what it is worth, but for what it means.

3.       Choose a Stone.

Generally speaking there are seven principle diamond shapes for jewelry: Round, Marquise, Emerald, Princess, Pear, Oval and Heart

Cut and cutting style work in harmony to create a diamond’s brilliance. Cutting style is categorized into three basic types: step-cut, brilliant-cut and mixed-cut.

The difference between these three types is the number of facets in each cut. A facet is an edge that is cut into a diamond. A 58-faceted diamond will have 58 edges or planes cut and polished into it.

Step Cut:

This cut has rows of facets that resemble the steps of a staircase and are usually four-sided and elongated. The Emerald and Baguette-cuts are examples of the step cut.

The Emerald-cut can be rectangular or square in shape.

The Baguette is a rectangular-shaped diamond with rows of step-like facets. If the baguette’s two long sides taper inward, it is called a Tapered baguette.

Brilliant Cut:The most common Brilliant-cut is round, but it can also be heart, oval, marquise, and pear. All Brilliants have 58 facets and are admired for their fire and sparkle.

A Trillion, sometimes known as a trilliant, is a triangular-shaped diamond with 50 facets.

Trillions are commonly used as side stones.

Mixed Cuts:

This cut has both Step and Brilliant-cut facets. In the last 20 years, Mixed-cuts featuring Step-cutting on the crown and Brilliant-cutting on the pavilion have become quite popular. Mixed cuts combine the beauty of the Emerald cut with the sparkle of the Brilliant cut.

Here are some common names for Mixed-cuts:

Radiant: A rectangular or square shaped diamond with Step and Scissor-cut on the crown and a Brilliant-cut on the pavilion.

Barion: This was the first Brilliant square cut introduced on the market. It has a traditional Step-cut crown and a modified Brilliant-cut pavilion. It has 62 facets.

Princess: A square or sometimes rectangular-shaped diamond with 49-50 facets. Princess-cuts are sometimes channel set, creating a solid line of brilliance along a mounting.

    4. Choosing a setting and band.

Now all that's left is to decide on the setting and the band. Fortunately, this is much easier than picking out a diamond. Just go with what you think is pretty and what you think she'd like. This is when having one of her friends with you could be particularly handy; she might know her ring style. Some options for the setting include having the diamond jut out or ride low. If it juts out, it might snag on her cashmere sweater, but if it rides low, it's not as showy (and, therefore, what's the point?). Well, we said it before and we'll say it again: go with what you like. Other styles include the cluster, prong-solitaire, bar, gypsy, and channel settings. As for the band, usually it's gold, white gold, or platinum. It's a good idea to see what kind of jewelry she already has so that you can be sure it matches.
